Building in San Mateo

What the City of San Mateo decides, and what we handle

Your lot

California law allows an ADU on most single-family lots. The City of San Mateo sets the local details, like how far it must sit from your property lines and how tall it can be. We check your lot against them before you commit to anything.

Plans and approval

We submit the plans to the City of San Mateo, answer every comment the city sends back, and resubmit until your permit is approved.

Fees

Permit fees are set by the City of San Mateo and paid directly to the city. PG&E connection fees are paid to PG&E. Neither can be priced exactly up front, so they are not part of our price.

Inspections

The City of San Mateo inspects the work at each stage. We book each inspection as the work finishes, so the site keeps moving.

San Mateo is in San Mateo County. Our office is in Newark. We also work in Redwood City, Palo Alto and Mountain View.

Yes. We build in San Mateo and across San Mateo County. Our office is in Newark.

Most single-family lots in California can have one. The City of San Mateo sets the local details, like how far it must sit from your property lines. We check your lot against them before you commit to anything.

They are set by the City of San Mateo, paid directly to the city, and depend on your project, so no one can price them exactly up front. PG&E connection fees are separate for the same reason.

Typically under a year from first drawing to move-in: up to 2 months for design and engineering, 2 to 3 months for city approval, and 3 to 5 months of construction.
